SUMMARY When Charity Bright intercepts a Christmas card, she s astonished to discover a secret she is not the sole surviving woman in her Old Order Amish family Once, her father had a sister a shunned aunt Charity never knew she had.Charity and her friend, Daniel, venture out to Manhattan on a purposed Rumspringa, in an effort to bring Charity s Aunt Hope back to the fold by Christmas Eve They ll have just three weeks in New York City with Hope, and Leanne, a pregnant runaway they find under Hope s wing. The English world has its allures, but none proves powerful than the developing bonds of love between Charity and her Aunt Hope, threatening Charity s blossoming romance with Daniel, and compelling both women to decide which place to call home.I have stayed away from Amish books for a while as I found that many of the stories I was reading seemed very formulaic Bright Christmas truly brought back my enjoyment of Amish fiction Charity s quandry and confusion between what she knows of the Old Order Amish faith of her family and what she feels should be true faith and forgiveness was well written and described aptly the conundrum each person of faith has to address as they grow to adulthood and develop their own faith beliefs The characters were insightful and the story line kept your attention from start to finish I look forward to reading of this author s writing.

I learned so much reading this story about the Amish community I never really knew or understood much about the Amish people, so this book was very educational for me I really enjoyed learning about them and their traditions and way of life It was so interesting to read about Charity s venture into NYC Personally, I prefer small town life so I think I would feel like a fish out of water in NYC I can only imagine how much so this would be for a young Amish girl Seeing NYC through Charity s eyes was fun reading The characters in this story are so lovable and made me really want to keep reading after it ended and find out about their lives after the story Charity s bond with her aunt is heart warming to read, her blossoming romance with Daniel is sweet, and the side story of Leanne was wonderful I wish authors would write clean and interesting stories like this.

Loved this story it was refreshing not to read a typical Amish story This story revealed the struggles of young people not just Amish as they strive to figure out what they believe I loved the way they still showed respect and love for their elders It also helps to illustrate how the Amish celebrate Christmas I did not want this story to end.

I was to leery to read another Amish novel there is only so many life situations you can write about before it gets boring But this novel had a new twist and I enjoyed reading it.

FAMILY, NO MATTER WHATCharity grows up pretty much without a mother, who died during childbirth when her twin brothers were born She takes care of her father, grandfather and brothers, but secretly, she thinks of Daniel She has priorities, though, and taking care of her family is at the topuntil she finds out she has an aunt she never knew about.Hope left the Amish community when her best friend and sister in law died during childbirth, but she still longs for home and the family she left behind When Charity shows up on Hope s doorstep with Daniel as an escort, Hope must decide between Ivan, an immigrant to America, and the family she left behind, and Charity must choose between the husband she longed for and the aunt she never knew she hador does she have to choose Can she have both I love stories like this The idea of shunning totally flabbergasts me and I couldn t imagine having to make that choice, but the struggle is real and brought to life in stories like this I loved it.

My 8th Christmas book of the season is an Amish book I ve been avoiding them because so many of them are too alike Bright Christmas was a pleasant surprise Easy to read, nothing earth shattering, but it was very interesting and I enjoyed it.I ve read other books where an Amish girl in her rumspringa visits an estranged relative who has become an Englischer They either wrestle with what they are exposed to, or they just visit and go homebut go home they all do.In Bright Christmas Charity accidentally finds out she has an aunt and is so curious about her that she feels she must visit with her With the intent of trying to bring her aunt back into the fold by Christmas, her father sends her to New York with Daniel, her father s choice in a husband for her His role was to help her with her task, protect her, and see that she comes home.Of course things are foreign to them both, but they don t go all crazy They stay Amish, but help her aunt in the Englischer world They experience things that are in some ways life changing, but they maintain their roots.Good book Easy to read and I d recommend this to anyone who likes Amish books.
