Her Dark Baron is written beautifully The words flow well and the descriptions are vivid and transport you immediately to a different time period with ease The novella has just the right touch of intrigue, mystery and sensuality to it to make it a great historical read.I was drawn in from the very first chapter Mariel, our leading lady, is such a great character and what I loved about her was that she was strong willed Yes, she did need saving Yes, she did what she was ordered too, but there is some part of her that doesn t conform to the ideas around her She thinks for herself and it was great to see her interaction with her husband. So, we come to Gervase He s mysterious and dangerous, and I was curious about his character from the beginning Was he a murderer What did he want with Mariel Was he going to hurt her Nadja Notariani answers all our questions in due time and I was satisfied with what I learned The steamy scenes are written well but, keep in mind, this is a book for adults not teens When Mariel and Gervase consummate their marriage, it is well worth the wait A mystery kicks in midway and I d already made my deductions about who was behind it I ended up being half wrong so that left me feeling surprised It was a well incorporated plot twist so I have to give Ms Notariani points for that The side characters weren t just there for the sake of being there They each had a purpose and a strong personality, and were memorable in their own way, especially Baron Flanders I appreciate how difficult this must be considering it is a novella and there is a limit on words. The only thing I wished was different was that it had been a full length novel instead of a novella I was so absorbed by this world that I didn t want to leave so soon I wanted to learnabout Mariel and Gervase s relationship and would have loved if there was eventension between them As a novella, I felt that everything tied in together well with no loose ends. Again, my lack of romance oriented experience sent me into the book with a degree of built in bias I was expecting a long, drawn out, over exaggerated love story In my mind, on the off chance there would be any plot it would have been lost among all of the mushy sex stuff. However, I was incredibly wrong in my preconceptions Her Dark Baron was muchthan just mushy sex stuff Yes, there were sex scenes and yes they were very good style points for Nadja on execution , but there was also character depth and a visible plot. The pacing was also a perfect fit When I first picked up the book I kind of looked at it like who writes a book this short any It was like a midget in giant land, but it truly is quality over quantity Her Dark Baron might have been short compared to other books, but for this story the length was just right There was plenty of room for detailed explanations, a leisurely pace, and , and any longer and the story would have started to drag, boring the reader.Yet again, I also enjoyed the little details that Nadja wove into the story It s those little things that really sold the story for me Aaron Author Nadja NotarianiPublished By NNAge Recommend AdultReviewed By Arlena DeanRaven Rating 4Blog Reviewed For GMTAReview Her Dark Baron by Nadja Notariani was a good romantic read The story setting was in the 1600 s and all I can say is if there are anybarons out there well I will not sayyou will just have to read this novel for yourself I liked it How Ms Notariani is able to relate this story of Mariel and Gervase Daltrey the hero and heroine who both were strong characterswas very interesting that you will fall in love with them I enjoyed this medieval romance For Gervase, Mariel was truly his Sweetling The story line really had a definite plot and the novel was short compared to many others that are longer and go on and on The details were well understood that made this storytelling a delightful read I felt that the novel was well written in the three stages of this story the beginning the meeting of the baronthe soon marriage and then the punch linejust who was trying to hurt Mariel Then the story really takes off with this mystery I did like the twist and turns of it I felt Her Dark Baron was indeed very sexy and intriguing read and if you are in for a good romance, Her Dark Baron would be a good read Read I love reading a good short story in between full length novels, and this novella did not disappoint My first by this author, and was impressed by how well written, considering with any novella, the storyline has to be condensed to fit the pages, so it then feels like it s moving much too quickly, this one however flowed beautifully and did not make me feel I was missing anything, in fact I sometimes like when the meeting, marriage, and consummation all occur within a chapter, or two Another great advantage to the Novella, is the focus stays on the H h and excludes all the inner dialogue that can drag on in a story Quick thoughts on the charactersThe Baron was a dream one I m sure I ll continue to have for several weeks, LOL , and I loved that Mariel was so complaisant, she didn t play hard to get for very long, like most which completely irritates me When I was in my early twenties, I used to devour a Barbara Cartland historical romance every night They were short and so romantic It s been a long time since I ve read any historical romances and I didn t realize how badly I d missed them until I read Her Dark Baron This book was so well written, and it kept me interested through the whole story It was sweet, sexy, and intriguing The love scenes were muchgraphic than the old books I used to read, but I CERTAINLY didn t mind This was a great read and I definitely look forward tofrom this author.
