I lovvvveee books 6 9, ahhh A nice book Interesting, but not crazy. 0.5 stars.I had three problems with this book.1 It was so repetitive that it wasn t even funny On character would say something and then two others would say the sme thing with different variations.2 There was no clear storyline or plot From the title you think that it is about some hidden treasure, but no, it is really about Madie s parents gardener s and cook s love story Then it changes again and it is about this friend s nephew going of to become a doctor.3 The timeline was all wrong Mandie is searching for the treasure her great aunt left behind and at the end it changes and is her aunt Also, everyone they talk to is very old and yet Mandie s father died young and yet he is only eight years younger than Mandie s aunt Another problem with the timeline, her uncle is older and yet was born after Mandie s aunt Last of all they have a week to figure out this mystery before they have to go back to school Two days later, they only have one day How on earth does a whole week pass in only three days It doesn t, that s how.All in all it was a very bad book and the only reason it is getting a half star review is the fact that her sentences weren t fragments. I admit it I am reviewing these books years after reading them However, do not even suggest that I m no longer qualified, that too many years have passed to remember My battered and faded copies of these books testify to how many times I read them growing up and plots and entire passages are seared in my memory forever Snowball always ran away, Mandie always got in trouble, Uncle Ned always rescued her, and Joe and Tommy bristled at each other I myself prefered Joe, but Tommy s cosmopolitan airs nearly tipped the balance a time or two I recall fondly and as though it were yesterday my glee when Mandie went off to Europe, my disgust at the new baby, my delight in Mandie s wardrobe of sky blue frocks, my puzzlement at all her near escapes and handy school vacations, my terror during the daring midnight adventures Ah me, to be young and silly againIf I had written goodreads reviews at the age of eleven, all Mandie books would ve received automatic five star ratings and gushing descriptions As an adult, I will honestly give them all three stars, except for my special pets And if I ever have a little girl, I will buy her the entire set Oh, and did you know there are than forty books in the series by now And I m guessing Mandie never grows up, either. We have read the Mandie books 1 9 so far I read them to my girls before bed every night There are at least 39 books in the series, and other specialty books that go along with the series, as well They are a little dated, as far as terms used for certain races, etc., but it has given me great opportunities for history lessons and current events They are great stories of the faith of a child in lots of life circumstances, and my girls just eat them up i m not sure if i have read this one or not I read them in fifth grade and i remembered loving them and i would like to read them all, the were really good and they weren t very thick so you could read a few each week if you wanted.
