What I really liked about this one is that it focused on the whys of what happened than most kids history books I ve read Several of the other children s books I ve read on this topic either focus on the narrative story or just the facts This one strings the causes and effects together in an understandable way without oversimplification some simplification is necessary it is, after all, a children s book Some fairly complex topics were addressed forms of representative government and stock corporations, for example at an age appropriate level. The paradox of the title is that the seeds of both democracy and slavery in America were planted in Jamestown and the book covers both of those topics well I would have liked illustrations, though It seemed a little text heavy, but my oldest is 7, so that could be because of the reading level I m used to.I d probably give it a 3.5 if I had the option, but since I don t, I ll round up this timeFor book reviews, come visit my blog, Build Enough Bookshelves.

The Paradox of Jamestown is about the early English colonies in America It is second in a series after clash of cultures It is completely nonfiction and very informative It is a short book, however it has a lot of important facts It goes into detail than my history textbook and is worth reading I recommend it to sixth and seventh graders because a lot of it was in my seventh grade textbook.
